In early March, University of Kentucky civil engineering students and faculty presented research at the SPIE Smart Structures + Nondestructive Evaluation Conference 2019 in Denver, Colorado. UK presenters represented the Multidisciplinary Smart Structures Knowledge Research Lab, which is led by civil engineering assistant professor Mariantonieta Gutierrez Soto.
Brandon Enbody, who received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in December, presented the paper "Biomimicry of school of fish for community windstorm design" in the Bioinspiration, Biomimetics, and Bioreplication IX session.
Amanda Bellamy, a current graduate student in the civil engineering and architecture programs, delivered the presentation “Towards resilient adaptive origami-inspired diagrid building envelope” in the Morphing, Deployable and Origami Structures session. This research project is in collaboration with assistant professor of mechanical engineering Christoph Brehm and graduate student Jonathan Boustani.
Gutierrez Soto served as chair for the Energy Harvesting session. You can learn more about her lab’s work here.
