NOW HIRING: Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering Position

The Department of Civil Engineering in the UK College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level witha start date of August 1, 2019.

The Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level with anticipated start date of August 1, 2019. We are interested in a wide variety of research emphases in sustainable infrastructure engineering.  Example areas of interest include sustainable design for civil engineering projects, aspects of infrastructure systems that deliver critical services, assessment of multi-hazards and their mitigation for infrastructure systems, implementing solutions for improving quality of life, addressing humanitarian and/or global issues, applications of renewable energy to infrastructure design, smart and sustainable materials. The department is especially interested in candidates whose research connects across two or more of these areas. Relevant industry experience is desirable. Further, there are excellent opportunities for interactions with the Kentucky Transportation Center, Kentucky Water Resources Research Institute, and Traci Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment.

Candidates must have a PhD in civil engineering or a related field at the time of appointment. Evidence of an ability to obtain extramural grant support and/or some teaching experience is preferred. Responsibilities for the successful candidates include establishment of a research program that is supported by awards from extramural agencies, foster inter- and intra-departmental collaborative research activities, contribution to the teaching mission of the undergraduate program, teaching and mentoring for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and service for the department, university, and profession. State law requires faculty members teaching engineering design to become licensed as Professional Engineers in Kentucky within four years of being employed.
