On Nov. 12, Reginald Souleyrette, the Commonwealth Chair in Transportation Engineering and a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, delivered an invited keynote address at the International Symposium for Railroad Operations Research in Beijing, China. Souleyrette discussed safety issues and technical opportunities for connected and automated vehicles, particularly for dangerous rail highway grade crossings.
The speech was delivered to over 200 researchers from the U.S., Asia and Europe, and was held at China's premier railroad research institute, Beijing Jiaotong University. During his visit, Souleyrette was treated to a technical tour of China's newest high speed rail line that accesses the Great Wall as well as a tour of Jiangxi Province.
