Grant Boggess, a recent University of Kentucky College of Engineering graduate, has received a $10,000 Tau Beta Pi Fellowship to attend graduate school at Rice University.

At Rice, Boggess will study mechanical engineering with the goal of becoming a professor. His research will focus on biomedical engineering, using simulations to predict how individual patients will respond to stroke therapy with rehabilitation robotics.

Boggess, of Lexington, graduated in May. While at UK, he studied materials engineering and mechanical engineering and interned at the Kentucky Industrial Assessment Center and GE Power.

He served as the president of UK's Tau Beta Pi chapter for the 2016-2017 academic year and as president of the engineering student group Material Advantage for the 2015-2016 school year. He has received several academic awards, including a First Place Oswald Research and Creativity Program award in the biological sciences division.
