James Griffioen, computer science professor and director of the UK Center for Computational Sciences, will be on the new Kentucky Research Computing team.

In September 2018, we announced the largest faculty hiring initiative in the college’s history. One year later, we have welcomed over 20 new faculty members to the college.
The collaborative project will include as Co-PI, UK ECE professor and L. Stanley Pigman Chair in Power, Dan M. Ionel.
On July 30, 2019, volunteers from the Department of Computer Science presented the Hour of Code at the Powell County Senior Citizen Center in Stanton, Kentucky.
The total amount of the award is approximately $500,000. The project will involve collaboration between University of Kentucky and Stevens Institute of Technology.
Computer science doctoral student Asare Nkansah (BSCS 2019) was one of three students to work with Apple on the app.
Computer science assistant professor Corey Baker says universities must do a better job recruiting, retaining and graduating minority students in engineering. Thus far, his own efforts are proving to be very successful.
The three-year grant is for approximately $600,000 and will involve collaboration with the Georgia Tech Institute of Technology.
