2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
South Lawn (formerly Kirwan-Blanding Complex)

The U.S. Marine Corps will be landing a MV-22B Osprey combat helicopter on UK’s campus Thursday, September 14 at the South Lawn, formerly known as the Kirwan-Blanding Complex. The event, which is organized by the Engineering Living Learning Program, is free and open to the public. Academic advisors for the mechanical and aerospace engineering majors will be on-site to answer questions from students. Engineering student organizations will be participating in an involvement fair.

The MV-22B Osprey is a tiltrotor V/STOL aircraft designed as a medium-lift assault support vehicle.

Initial Operational Capability (IOC) for the MV-22B was declared in June 2007. The Osprey had three successful combat deployments in Iraq from October 2007 to April 2009 with VMM-263, VMM-162 and VMM-266 respectively. VMM-263 embarked on the first MV-22 shipboard deployment with the Bataan Ready Group in May 2009 as part of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).

Faculty members from the UK College of Engineering’s new Aerospace Engineering program will also be displaying unmanned aerial vehicle technologies and sharing information about the new aerospace programs. UK has the only aerospace engineering program for undergraduate students in the state.

Members of the U.S. Marine Corps will be on hand to talk about career opportunities.
