The Eitel Group is interested is applying fundamental principles of materials science to the discovery and application of "Smart Materials" in diverse fields encompassing electronics, energy, and microbiology. So-called "Smart Materials" are materials which response to an external stimuli yielding a significant change in one or more of the materials properties. Smart materials include Piezoelectrics, Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs), and Electro-Rheological (ER) Fluids among others.
The main focus of our research is in bulk and thick film materials utilizing our expertise in ceramic processing and sintering to understand structure-properties relationships vital to controlling and improving the performance of the materials and devices we develop.
Please spend some time and look around to learn more about our research programs, group, publications, and facilities.
