Here is where you want to get started. But if you already are setup, go to DOWNLOADS only for latest versions.

UofK SCANNER ALPHA SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS

Our software is referred to as “alpha” level rather than “beta” because the applications are not intended to become production applications. These are research applications that our group use all the time and being research apps, they have hundreds of controls and many configurations. Never the less, for the patient and persistent, they can be used to get some really nice 3D scans.

We use the same directory structure for all our scanner applications. You can store your data anywhere but our applications need to be in specific folders in the C drive. The software will run on 32 bit XP, 64 bit Vista and 64 bit Windows 7 operating system.

STEP 1: To make it easier for you to create the directory structure, you can download the following application

AlphaCreate_Scanner_Settings_directory.exe

When you run AlphaCreate… on Vista or Win7, you will need to right click and “Run as Administrator” so it can create the directory structure in the C: root directory. You can also manually create the structure and as an alpha tester, you should be familiar with this structure. The base directory is

C:/Scanner_Settings

STEP 2: Once you have the C:/Scanner_Settings directory you can unzip all the contents of the following zip file into that directory. If unzipped correctly, you should the contents of the following directories as described. The zip file is not updated as often as the individual exe files so you should download and replace the ones in C:/Scanner_Settings/bin with the most recent executables. See next section for individual applications.

OVERVIEW OF DIRECTORY and INDIVIDUAL EXECUTABLES

In the C:/Scanner_Settings directory you will have

The /bin directory (below left) contains the applications and the /licenses directory (below right).

The applications and their licenses are

Logitech Webcam with MS XP operating system (limited to 480x640 resolution): UofKScannerLT.exe (Logitech scanner app) and license. This will not work in Vista, it only works with XP. You can verify that your camera will work by downloading the websecurity.exe webcam security application in 2-D software. Use the View button to see if your camera works. If you don’t see an image than UofKScannerLT.exe probably will not work. We have tried the Logitech 4000 and 420 webcams and they seem to work.

Logitech Webcam with MS XP OS (will run at maximum resolution): UofKScanner_LT9000_32.exe (Logitech scanner app) and LT9000_Settings_32.exe (allows you to adjust Logtech settings while UofKscanner is in preview mode). We have not tested the 32 bit version on Vista or Win7 but it should run since the 64 bit version works on those systems. However, we noticed that it runs about 3X slower on Vista or Win7 (in 64 bit mode) than XP (We have no idea why but suspect the Vista and XP drivers favor the video stream rather than single snap shot mode???). The LT9000_Settings application allows you to set up the camera parameters while in Preview Mode in UofKScanner. You can save the results as defaults. The present version only runs in maximum resolution mode but we hope to correct this in the future. We will also put out the 64 bit Vista and Win7 version soon.

IDS uEye MS XP OS: UofKScanneruEye32.exe

Matrix Vision Blue Fox MS XP OS (coming soon but will be limited to 480x640 for licensing reasons).

Mat5 Viewer: GL3DView.exe  and license.

Calibration Application: Calibrate.exe and license.

You can create a shortcut for any of these applications and put the shortcuts anywhere you want.

The /Help directory contains the help files which will be occasionally updated from the web. You can also update these files with notes of your own but beware, if you download from the web, your notes will be overwritten. We also store tutorial videos for the applications in the Help directory (not shown in snapshot below).

The /soundfiles directory contains all the sound prompt files.

/UofKScannerX where X is the number of the scanner. You can set up scanner files via the applications but we start you with UofKScanner7. Within UofKScannerX, there is another folder /Calibrate. The Calibrate folder contains all the calibration data for scanner X.
