Research

My general interests include Embedded Systems, High-Performance Computing, Checkpointing, Fault-tolerance, and Distributed Computing. In particular I am currently emphasizing power-aware scheduling in real-time embedded systems.

I run the KAOS Software Develpment lab and affiliated with "The Aggregate".

Extended Precision and Ppeculative Precision Floating-Point Arithmetic: using software and hardware techniques to improve performance by dynamically adjusting precision to meet minimum accuracy requirements
Cluster Design Rules: a tool for designing cluster supercomputers, with Hank Dietz
Power Reduction with Variable Sampling Rate
Solid State Spectral Imaging (SSSI): with Robert A. Lodder and James E. Lumpp, Jr. SSSI uses near-IR through UV spectroscopy and a statistical test, called the Bootstrap Error Adjusted Single-sample Technique (BEST), to quickly and accruately classify substances from a distance (see the 2005 IEEE Aerospace paper for more information.)
