Women In Engineering
Scholarships & Resources
Scholarships are awarded by the University of Kentucky Society of
Women in Engineers (SWE) and the Women in Engineering Program to outstanding
prospective and currently enrolled female students.
UKSWE awards one $500 scholarship to entering freshman each Fall.
Sophomore, junior and senior scholarships are also awarded to currently
enrolled students at the annual SWE Spring Banquet. Applications are
available in the Spring in Student Services Office, 379 Ralph G Anderson Building.
National SWE Scholarships
As part of its national educational activities, SWE administers approximately
90 scholarships annually, varying in amount from $200 to over $5000
per year and totaling more than $150,000. All grants are announced
in the spring or summer for use during the following academic year.
Grant payments are made in the fall for corporate sponsored scholarships
and in both the fall and spring for endowed scholarships, upon proof
of registration. All SWE scholarships are open only to women majoring
in engineering or computer science in a college or university with
an ABET-accredited program or in a SWE-approved school and who will
be in the specified year of studies during the academic year the grant
payment is made. Applicants for sophomore, junior, senior, and graduate
scholarships must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0, freshman
are required to have a 3.5/4.0 minimum (unweighted) high school grade
point average.
Application and Deadlines:
Applications for Freshman Scholarships and Reentry Scholarships are
available from March through June only. Completed applications, including
all supportive materials, must be postmarked no later than May 15th.
Recipients only will be notified by September 15.
Applications for Sophomore, Junior, Senior, and Graduate Scholarships
are available from October through January only. Completed applications,
including all supportive materials, must be postmarked no later than
February 1. Recipients only will be notified by May 1.
