Women In Engineering
Women in Engineering Career Day
In celebration of National Engineer's Week, we strive to make the world of
engineering come alive for young women of Kentucky by offering programs
and activities at this year's "WOMEN IN ENGINEERING CAREER DAY"
scheduled for Friday, February 23, 2007 in the R.G.
Anderson Bldg Student Commons.
Since its inauguration in
2001, an estimated two million girls nationwide
have had a chance to experience engineering firsthand. Here in Lexington,
Kentucky, we are hosting this special event for 100 students, parents,
teachers and counselors from schools across the state. The day will
begin on the University of Kentucky campus with opportunities to learn
more about the different engineering fields. As a special part of this
year's program, participants will spend the second half of the day visiting
Lexmark's worldwide headquarters and research and development campus
in Lexington.
Transportation will be provided.
The purpose of the day is
to meet women engineers working in fields of electrical, mechanical,
computer science and materials engineering. These engineers will describe
life in the engineering community as a career professional. Our engineering
students will introduce students to the field of engineering and encourage
them to continue their study of math and science so they will be qualified
to study engineering. Parents, teachers and counselors will also benefit
from the day's events gaining information to assist their students make
educated decisions on career choices.
For questions pertaining to the day's activities, please email Diane
Freeman , or telephone (859) 257-1080.
