Welcome letter from the Director of the ERC LLP

Tony Colella

Dear Engineering Residential College LLP Prospect,

Thank you for taking time to learn more about the Engineering Residential College (ERC) Living Learning Program (LLP). We’re extremely excited that you are interested in the most desirable and demanding LLP on the UK campus. I hope you’re ready to allow us to enhance your engineering/computer science academic journey. The ERC will provide you with numerous academic, technical and social activities and programs that will strongly benefit you as you pursue your degree.

If you are passionate about pursuing a career in engineering or computer science, the ERC is an excellent opportunity for you. Your residential experience complements classroom expectations by integrating you into the engineering community with programs centered on professional development and enhancement. Some of the planned activities involve academic tutoring, our “Root beer with an Engineer (RBE)” social hour, faculty/staff involvement and an assigned ERC peer mentor to ensure you’re on the right academic track and help you be successful in your college pathway. These programs and many more are available to all ERC members. Most recently, our success was measured by a 12% increase in retention of ERC students over non-ERC students. And our ERC students received a much higher average CGPA in their first year than those students who were not part of the ERC . You don’t want to miss out on being part of this amazing community of excellence.

UK President Capilouto was quoted by saying: “Our new residence halls — and the living-learning programs (LLP) within — extend and enhance our ability to create community environments where more students can grow together both socially and intellectually. The College of Engineering living-learning program brings students and faculty together to enrich their in-class coursework with an immersive, interactive curricular component in our modern living communities."

I’m confident you’ll discover that surrounding yourself around over 600 other engineering/computer science majors is a rewarding experience. If you have any questions regarding the ERC please do not hesitate to contact me directly. We look forward to seeing you apply to the ERC upon your acceptance to the UK College of Engineering. C-A-T-S, Cats, Cats, Cats!
