Instructional Resources
Courses may be delivered by interactive television, satellite, videotapes,
or on-site origination. UK Distance Learning Networks/Distance Learning
Technology Center encompasses sites throughout the Commonwealth at community
colleges and at cooperating regional universities and business/government
centers.
For those courses with a laboratory component, students may be required
to participate in intensive short-term laboratories on the Lexington campus,
limited to one or two weekends over the course of a semester. Such course
requirements are indicated prior to registration. For other laboratory-dependent
courses, demonstrations and experiments may be delivered by videotape.
Partipating graduate students must have access to a personal computer
with capacity equal to, or greater than, an IBM-compatible personal computer
(600 MHz Pentium processor, minimum). Internet access is available from
all community college receive sites through T-1 lines, with aggressive
infrastructure development programs ongoing throughout the Commonwealth.
This access is vital, not only for communication with the faculty and
staff, but for access to the University's computer system.
Access to library holdings is offered to distance learning students through
the Distance Learning Library Service. A variety of services are available
through a toll-free number, a direct fax line, electronic mail, and world
wide web home page address that provides individualized information instruction,
literature searches, and document delivery.
