The multidisciplinary Master of Engineering degree serves the advanced
educational needs of engineers with accredited bachelor's degrees. The
majority of these engineers are employed by businesses, industries, and
government agencies throughout the Commonwealth.
The Master of Engineering degree is offered in its entirety through off-campus
modes of delivery, predominantly through interactive television. The program
is limited to engineers who can access interactive classroom sites in
Kentucky. This program provides a realistic option for engineers who wish
to pursue graduate engineering education but who cannot do so on the main
campus. Normally, students complete degree requirements in a part-time
status in approximately three or four years. These courses are also available
to students in post-baccalaureate status who wish to strengthen their
knowledge and skills in a specific area, but who do not wish to pursue
an advanced degree.
Students completing the Master of Engineering degree acquire enhanced
engineering analysis and science skills, enabling them to better understand
and predict the performance of engineered systems and components.
They also are able to more effectively understand and utilize research
on engineered systems and on phenomena integral to such systems. Graduates
are in a position to contribute to the enhanced competitiveness of business
and industry, and to solve problems impacting the quality of life within
the Commonwealth.
All guidelines and policies of the University of Kentucky Graduate School
are applicable to the Master of Engineering program, including admission
requirements. Graduate tuition is charged for all course work, including
those taken in post-baccalaureate status.
Extended-campus graduate program sites are located throughout the state.
