The college of engineering has recently approved an environmental option in engineering certificate program. The purpose of the program (for detailed program description please click here) is to allow undergraduate students in participating departments within the college of engineering (i.e. Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Mining Engineering) to receive formal recognition (via a certificate) for additional educational emphasis in environmental issues as part of their normal undergraduate degree program. For application forms (in Microsoft Word) please click here. For problems or info on these WWW entries, please contact Dr. D. Bhattacharyya.

I. Program Requirements To receive an environmental option in engineering certificate at the undergraduate level, the student is required to obtain an undergraduate degree in a participating department of the college of engineering and take (as part of his/her normal degree program):

    A. A 3 hour interdisciplinary introductory course in environmental engineering (to be offered beginning in the Spring of 1996).
    B. A minimum of 6 hours of environmental science courses with at least 3 hours of biology and 3 hours of chemistry selected from the following:
    1. BIO208 Principles of Microbiology
      BIOXXX Environmental Physiology
    2. CHE230 Organic Chemistry I
      CHE236 Survey of Organic Chemistry
    C. At least 12 hours of approved environmentally related engineering courses with the requirement that at least three hours must be selected from one of the other participating departments.

II. Additional Requirements

In order to participate in the program a student must posses engineering standing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 (higher in some departments). The student must also achieve a letter grade of C or better in each course taken as part of the certificate program.
