Indirect Cost Return
For 2003-04, the VP for
Research will return an additional five percent of indirect costs generated
in 2002-03 to the College. This amounts approximately $142K.
The team agreed that a plan should be formulated that addresses
the College's need for fellowships as well as for graduate student recruiting.
Graduate
Recruiting
The
subject of graduate recruiting was discussed. Several members
of the team suggested the possibility of offering bonus stipends over
and above their annual support in order to attract higher quality graduate
students.
In
terms of recruitment of persons from underrepresented groups, it was
agreed that the College must make a more concerted effort in this area.
The College of Agriculture has a strong minority recruitment program.
Dr. Grulke will contact Dr. Larry Turner to gain insight into
their program. Dr. Grulke also mentioned the need to work more
closely with NSBE and SHPE during the coming year.
Endowed
Fellowships
Discussion
turned the topic of endowed fellowships. It was mentioned that
at some schools, each faculty member has one endowed fellowship to offer
a student.
Retreat
It
was agreed that additional discussion was needed on the topic of endowed
fellowships as well as the graduate studies strategic plan for the college. It was decided that the group would meet for a half-day retreat
in early June to finalize discussion on these two matters. Monica will
check on available dates at the Carnahan House and get back with the
group on a date and time.
