Scholars in Engineering and Management Corporate Champions

Corporate Champions – Thank you for your interest and continued support of SEAM through class presentations, campus talks, corporate site visits, and/or capstone projects.   SEAM brings together undergraduate business and engineering students at UK who participate in an integrated, cohorted honors program.   SEAM Scholars have access to specially designed courses such as The Business Enterprise, The Engineering Enterprise, Entrepreneurship and Venture Creation, and Lean Systems.  They are provided many opportunities to visit technology based corporations and are required to complete internships or co-op rotations within these corporations.    Corporate speakers and SEAM programming assist SEAM students in understanding leadership principles, the responsibilities of corporate citizenship, and international business demands.

Each spring a new cohort of SEAM students is recruited from high schools.  The new cohort begins the fall semester at UK composed of twenty business students and twenty engineering students who will matriculate together through their college careers.  From beginning to end they learn how to function with each other in team projects.  Selection criteria include academic achievement as reflected in high school GPA and ACT scores.   Extracurricular activities weigh heavily in the selection process as these students will need excellent time management skills in order to enjoy the extra opportunities afforded by SEAM participation.  Along with these factors, diversity of the group is considered to provide a well-rounded teaming environment.   SEAM is able to enjoy a high level of diversity in terms of gender, ethnicity, and demographic representation.

Faculty leaders are Dr. Bill Maloney of the Engineering College and Dr. Scott Kelly of the Gatton College of Business and Economics.   If you would like to be a Corporate Champion for SEAM or would like further information, please contact one of the directors, Donna Hewett dhewett@engr.uky.edu  in the Engineering College or Lauren Goodpaster  goodpaster@uky.edu in the Gatton College of Business and Economics.
