Electrical Engineering

The zip that makes things go

Electrical engineers design, test and supervise the manufacture of electrical equipment and systems. These include systems that bring us power, entertain us, connect us and control the things we use. From the fun things in life like iPods to the things like cell phone networks that we take for granted, electrical engineers are behind many of the innovative technologies such as green energy that will shape our technological landscape in the future.

Talk to me

Everything cell phones can do today would still seem like science fiction if not for electrical engineers. From designing the chips that run BlackBerrys and iPhones to helping create radio towers and design cellular networks, electrical engineers are at the forefront of the twenty-first century’s communications breakthrough.

Healthy inside and out

Medical applications are an expanding area of electrical engineering. Electrical engineers are hard at work developing instrumentation to monitor body systems like blood pressure and heartbeat, and then finding ways to analyze and collate that data.

What’s on

UK electrical engineers are actively researching 3-D imaging and data processing for advanced visualization applications. They also design entertainment devices like televisions and A/V equipment.

A UK College of Engineering graduate led IBM’s microprocessor team that created the computer chips that power Sony’s PlayStations 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360.
