Admission Procedures

Students who wish to apply for joint admission in a current pre-engineering program (MSU, WKCTC, or possibly other programs) and UK College of Engineering, Paducah must follow specific steps to ensure proper dual enrollment for the University of Kentucky. Jointly enrolled students are those students who wish to take one or more engineering courses offered through UK College of Engineering, Paducah, as well as pre-engineering courses at other institutions. All applications must be processed directly through the office of the Director of Student Services, located at 210 Crounse Hall on the campus of West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

FRESHMEN APPLICANTS

  1. Students must complete the University of Kentucky application for undergraduate admission in addition to the application for admission to the pre-engineering school of choice.
  2. Official ACT scores must be sent directly to UK by the test agency (UK ACT code: 1554).
  3. Applicants must submit an application fee payable to the University of Kentucky (checks or money orders only). Students who are incoming freshmen at West Kentucky Community and Technical College. are not required to pay the application fee.
  4. Students should submit completed UK applications and official high school transcripts to Bonita Lykins, Director of Student Services, UK College of Engineering, Paducah. Official high school transcripts must be mailed directly from the high schools and require the signature of a school official or a high school seal. If they wish, students may bring completed applications to the engineering office, which is located on the second floor of Crounse Hall, the science and engineering building on the campus of WKCTC. All incoming freshmen applicants must be fully admissible to the University of Kentucky. Required academic credentials are identical to the admission criteria for the Lexington campus.
  5. The Director of Student Services will certify admissibility and will mail admission materials to the appropriate officials in Lexington.

 

TRANSFER APPLICANTS (FEWER THAN 24 SEMESTER HOURS)

  1. Transfer applicants with fewer than 24 semester hours earned or in progress must follow the same guidelines as first time freshmen applicants. Also, applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better for all college work attempted and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better at the last institution attended.
  2. In addition, transfer applicants must submit an official transcript from each college or university attended, even if they earned no credit.
  3. The director of Student Services in Paducah must process all applications, high school transcripts, and college transcripts. Applicants must request that official ACT scores be mailed directly to UK from the testing agency (ACT code: 1554).
  4. Transfer students must pay a nonrefundable application fee. This fee is waived if students are concurrently enrolled in WKCTC .

 

TRANSFER APPLICANTS (24 SEMESTER OR MORE HOURS)

  1. Transfer applicants with 24 or more semester hours earned or in progress must submit completed applications with the application fee if required to the Director of Student Services at Paducah. Students transferring from WKCTC will not be charged the application fee.
  2. Also, transfer applicants must request an official transcript from each college or university attended, even if no credit was earned. Transcripts must be forwarded to the student services office at Paducah.
  3. To be admitted to the program, students must meet all requirements for transfer applicants to UK. Transfer applicants must have a GPA of 2.0 or better or all college or university work attempted. Also, applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better for all work attempted at the last institution attended.

 

TUITION AND FEES

  • If a student takes non-engineering classes through West Kentucky Technical and Community College, their tuition will be paid as follows. All billing and payment will take place through UK. No money will be paid directly by the student to WKCTC or MSU. Before the student has engineering standing, they will pay the WKCTC tuition rate for all hours taken, even if the courses are UK or MSU courses. After reaching engineering standing, the student will pay the full-time student tuition at UK.
  • If a student chooses to take courses from a college other than WKCTC, tuition will be paid separately. The student will pay the tuition charged by the pre-engineering school of choice plus the UK hourly tuition rate for those courses taken through the UK College of Engineering.
  • UK-Paducah students pay additional fees beyond tuition. For all engineering courses, there is a $20/credit hour fee. A UK-Paducah student will not be charged any additional student fees associated with the Lexington campus.

 

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • Students from Massac, Alexander, and Pulaski counties in Illinois take UK courses in Paducah at in-state tuition rates.
