June 2009 Summer Program

Description: This one week residential program provides a pre-engineering curriculum to students who

are interested in pursuing an engineering degree and who will contribute to the diversity of the educational

experience in the College of Engineering. This unique opportunity to gain pre-engineering academic skills

will prepare you for your junior and senior year of high school, as well as your college engineering career.

Additionally, you will get an inside view of the exceptional opportunities the College of Engineering at the

University of Kentucky holds as you preview life as a Wildcat. The UK BEST program is scheduled for June

2008. Course work is hands on problem solving and requires use of pre-calculus math, chemistry,

physics, English, engineering design, and college leadership skills. Applicants are accepted for

UK BEST based on a comprehensive individualized assessment. Scholarships based on need are available!!

Dates: June 7-11, 2009

Who can apply:

Students who will contribute to the diversity of the educational experience in the UK College of Engineering
Academically talented students who will complete the 10th grade in spring 2009

UK BEST application process:

Complete the application between November 15, 2008 and March 1, 2009.
Complete a 400-word essay on "How I can contribute to the diversity of the educational experience at the University of Kentucky."
Submit evidence of a grade point average of "B" or better, as documented on an official high school transcript.
Submit PLAN, PSAT, SAT, or ACT scores, if available.
Send after acceptance into the program: a $350 check made out to "UK College of Engineering - UK BEST"
