Office for Informational Services and Technical Liaison

Mission Statement

The Office for Informational Services and Technical Liaison (OISTL) was founded in 1978 as part of the Institute for Mining and Minerals Research at the University of Kentucky. OISTL joined the College of Engineering in 1994 and relocated their offices to the Mining and Mineral Resources Building.

OISTL provides coordinating support for technical education through short courses, seminars and conferences for the mineral, engineering, and environmental industries, and increases communication between the developers and potential users of new techniques and technologies. The group also provides support in planning, developing, and coordinating meetings and conferences for professional societies and associations. OISTL’s programs have been approved for Professional Development Hours (PDHs) and Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

General Course Information

Location

Unless otherwise noted, all continuing education programs are held on the University of Kentucky campus or at various locations in Lexington. The University of Kentucky is the state’s only comprehensive, land-grant institution and is committed to excellence in teaching, research and service.

Renowned internationally for its equine industry, Lexington, Kentucky is encircled by hundreds of horse farms, including some of the world’s largest and most famous breeding and training centers. As the center of the famed “Bluegrass” Region, Lexington is centrally located between the eastern and western coalfields of Kentucky. Historic sites, antique shops, skilled craft demonstrations, outdoor dramas and regional specialties are all part of the charm and hospitality of Central Kentucky.

Lexington is set at the crossroads of two major interstate highways, I-64 East and West and I-75 North and South. Blue Grass Airport, served by major national carriers, is just a 15-20 minute drive to downtown and the University of Kentucky campus. Rental cars and taxi services are available at the airport. Lexington’s major hotels also offer shuttle service to and from Blue Grass airport. Louisville, Kentucky’s Staniford Field is approximately 70 miles from the Lexington campus; The Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky Airport lies approximately 70 miles to the north of campus.
