As the field matures and developers gain a  deeper understanding of size effects, the efficiency values achieved by  nanostructured designs are expected to surpass traditional devices by  wide margins.</p><p>Researchers at the University of Kentucky, US, have developed two novel  device configurations for thin-film CdS-CdTe solar cells, where the  traditional CdS window layer is replaced by nanowires of CdS embedded in  an aluminum oxide matrix or free standing.</p><p><a

The Navarre region of Spain generates 70% of its energy from renewable resources, so this course will provide a unique perspective [...]]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The College of Engineering at the University of  Kentucky is pleased to partner with the Pamplona Learning Spanish  Institute to present an education abroad opportunity this summer, a  renewable energies course in Pamplona, Spain. The Navarre region of  Spain generates 70% of its energy from renewable resources, so this  course will provide a unique perspective on the local application of  green energy resources. The course is lecture-based, but includes site  visits to various renewable energy installations.</p><p>This four  credit course should be transferrable as an elective to your current  engineering curriculum. Students who are not enrolled at the University  of Kentucky should apply through our Office of International Affairs (<a
href="http://abroad.ad.uky.edu/">http://abroad.ad.uky.edu/</a>)</p><p>There are two options for instruction: Option A includes a two week  Spanish immersion course + the renewable energies program (21 June  through 30 July, 2010), and Option B is the renewable energies program  itself (5 July through 30 July, 2010). Students may elect to stay in  local homes (which includes some meals) or in local apartments.  The  prices for the various packages are given in the Pamplona course general  description.</p><p>Dr. Eric Grulke, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and Professor of Chemical Engineering,</p><p>will be delivering the course content on U.S.  energy policy, while the remainder will be provided by practicing  engineers in the Navarre region.</p><p>Please contact Dr. Eric Grulke  if you have questions;  <a
