Many of our mechanical engineering faculty will be in attendance, along with renowned researchers and engineers in the field from all over the world. [...]]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The American Society of Mechanical Engineers International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition kicked off Friday morning at the Hyatt Regency Denver and Colorado Convention Center and will run through November 17. Many of our mechanical engineering faculty will be in attendance, along with renowned researchers and engineers in the field from all over the world. The conference will feature keynote speakers, student design competitions and industry and vendor exhibits. This year’s focus is on “Energy and Water Scarcity.”</p><p>The conference’s website describes the 2011 Congress as “a premier global conference that focuses on today&#8217;s technical challenges, research updates and breakthrough innovations that are shaping the future of engineering. The Congress convenes engineers, scientists and technologists of all disciplines for the purposes of exploring solutions to global challenges and for the advancement of engineering excellence worldwide.”</p><p>Find more information, visit <a

Hancher Lecture will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in the auditorium of the William T. Young Library on the campus of the University of Kentucky. Dr. Bob Bowen of Bowen Engineering Corporation in Indianapolis, Indiana, will be lecturing on the topic, “Thinking like a Contractor.” A reception will be held in the gallery adjacent to the auditorium beginning at 5:00 pm with the Hancher Lecture beginning at 6:00 pm.</p><p>Dr. Bowen is the founder and chairman of Bowen Engineering and has received honorary doctorates in Business Administration from the University of Indiana in Evansville and in Engineering from Purdue Engineering.  Dr. Bowen was recently appointed the Donn E. Hancher Distinguished Fellow by the Construction Engineering and Management Program at Purdue University where he taught a class on Leadership and Advanced Project Management. </p><p>The Hancher Lecture was established by the Construction Engineering and Project Management faculty to honor Donn E. Hancher for his contributions to civil engineering and the Construction Engineering and Project Management program at the University of Kentucky.
