Zero-g Experiment for Photogrammetric Measurement of Wrinkle Configuration in a Tensioned, Parabolically-Curved Membrane. Ten undergraduate students from the University of Kentucky/Paducah Mechanical Engineering Department will be investigating the effects of gravity, edge loading, and membrane material properties on wrinkle formation on the surface of a 1-m, single curved parabolic reflector. -Full story The UK Solar Car Team is now constructing a solar car to race in the 2003 American Solar Challenge this July. The team began 3 years ago as a student run engineering project, with support from the College of Engineering. The team consists entirely of undergraduate and graduate students who have designed the car from scratch, starting only with the race regulations. -Full story Inspired by autonomous glider concepts for the exploration of Mars and Venus, a team of over 40 undergraduate students from Mechanical and Electrical and Computer Engineering designed, fabricated, tested, and flew a balloon-launched, high-altitude, inflatable-wing glider. -Full story Mark your calendars now for Homecoming 2003! The College of Engineering will celebrate Homecoming on October 18. All alumni are invited to a luncheon at the Ralph G. Anderson Building in the Engineering Complex. Included was a chairman of the company that produces Oscar-winning 3D graphics software used in movies such as Toy Story, Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo; an educator who began the first engineering education program in South Vietnam; a state and national leader in the promotion of engineering education; and a corporate leader who successfully merged two giant companies. The College of Engineering hosted the annual Civil Engineering Awards Reception and Banquet on April 26, 2003.
