Other
bridges broke under the pressure of testing procedures,
but
the one designed and built by BEST students Chelsea Harnack
(left) from Model Lab School in Richmond and Emily Shipley from
Trigg
County High held together, though it did take on a new shape!
The
two won both the bridge building competition and the car design
competition.
The College of Engineering
welcomed 26 high school students from across Kentucky to campus this
week for the second annual BEST program. BEST stands for Building Engineering,
Science and Technology.
The week included classes
with UK engineering faculty, hands-on experience in designing and building
cars and bridges, and an opportunity to tour the facilities at Lexmark,
one of the sponsors of the program.
