Robert R. (Bob) Dawson, Jr. was born the son of Robert Randall and Nancy Clark Dawson in Louisville, Ky. on October 11, 1943. He has a younger brother, Tom Dawson and a younger stepbrother, Dan Martin. Bob attended Bloomfield Elementary School in Bloomfield, Ky., where the family lived and graduated from Kentucky Military Institute in Louisville.

In 1962, Mr. Dawson began his college education at the University of Kentucky. During the summers of both high school and college he worked for R.R. Dawson Bridge Company in the state of Kentucky. He graduated in 1966 with a B.S. degree from the College of Commerce.

In 1967, he joined the Marine Corps Reserve and was allowed visitation to Parris Island. In 1969, he went to work again for R.R. Dawson Bridge Company in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1972, his daughter Nancy was born in Montgomery, Ala. and at his father’s request he relocated back to Kentucky.

Mr. Dawson Sr. passed away in 1983 and the partnership of R.R. Dawson Bridge Company is now composed of Bob and his two brothers. There is an Atlantic Division and a Gulf Division and Bob has responsibility for the latter, which works in the gulf states of the southeast. Since 1966, the Gulf Division has done most of its work in Alabama where they have completed over $1.2 billion worth of work stated in 2007 dollars. They were involved with the rebuilding of the downtown interstate system in Atlanta and the reconstruction of the CSX railroad bridges in Mississippi after hurricane Katrina.

Bob has served on the Board of Directors of National City Bank in Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky, Association of Highway Contractors (past President), Alabama Road Builders Association (past President), Kentuckians for Better Transportation (past Chairman), the Road Information Program (Secretary-Treasurer), Associated General Contractors of America (National Highway Bridge Committee-past Chairman), the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Airport, the Lexington School and Transylvania University.

Bob and his wife Sarah live in Lexington. His daughter, Nancy Jones, lives and teaches in Athens, Georgia and his stepson, P.R. Gerrow, runs an equine training facility in Woodford County, Kentucky. Bob and Sarah have only three hobbies: spending as much time as possible in Florida, horse racing at Keeneland, and participating in sport car racing. Both Sarah and Bob are certified national instructors for Porsche Club of America.
