Murphy
elected to ASHRAE board, participates in IRC conference

Dr. William Murphy, a professor
of Mechanical Engineering and the Director of the Engineering Extended
Campus programs in Paducah, was recently elected to serve a three-year
term on the board of directors of ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating,
Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers.

In addition, Dr. Murphy was
selected as a Fellow of ASHRAE at its annual meeting in Kansas City.
ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is an international organization of
55,000 persons. Its sole objective is to advance through research, standards
writing, publishing and continuing education the arts and sciences of
heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration to serve the
evolving needs of the public.
Dr. Murphy also participated
in the recent 21st International Congress of Refrigeration in Washington,
DC, where he presented three papers and served on the conference planning
committee where he organized 11 technical sessions in the area of air-conditioning.
The ICR is held every four years, and this year's
event was the first hosted by the U. S. since 1971. More than
600 participants attended from over 50 countries. The ICR is
the major technology transfer venue for the International Institute
of Refrigeration, based in Paris. The next IIR congress will
be hosted by China in Beijing in 2007. Murphy was also elected
as the incoming president of the U. S. National Committee of the IIR
and will assume that office in January 2004.
