In addition, Dr. Murphy was selected as a Fellow of ASHRAE at its annual meeting in Kansas City.   ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is an international organization of 55,000 persons. Its sole objective is to advance through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration to serve the evolving needs of the public.

Dr. Murphy also participated in the recent 21st International Congress of Refrigeration in Washington, DC, where he presented three papers and served on the conference planning committee where he organized 11 technical sessions in the area of air-conditioning.

The ICR is held every four years, and this year's event was the first hosted by the U. S. since 1971.   More than 600 participants attended from over 50 countries.   The ICR is the major technology transfer venue for the International Institute of Refrigeration, based in Paris.   The next IIR congress will be hosted by China in Beijing in 2007.   Murphy was also elected as the incoming president of the U. S. National Committee of the IIR and will assume that office in January 2004.
