Middle
school students visit UK for GMSCPP
Participating teachers to receive circuit/LED
materials for classroom
About 200 middle school students
visited UK Tuesday
and Wednesday June 3-4 as
part of the Governor's Minority Student College Preparation Program
(GMSCPP).
Included in their schedule
was a Snap Circuit/Flashing LED activity presented by the UK College
of Engineering and the Kentucky Electronics Education Project (KEEP).
Middle school teachers had participated in an earlier training program
through KEEP, and the session Wednesday served as a practicum. Participating
teachers received materials for use in their own classrooms.
KEEP was started by Dr. Janet
Lumpp, associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer
Education, through a National Science Foundation CAREER award. KEEP
uses microelectronics as a theme in science and math education. Efforts
are targeted at teachers and students at the middle school and high
school levels.
