GEMS
brings Girl Scouts to UK for math, science program
About
160 Girl Scouts, ranging from fourth grade through high school, will
visit the UK campus Saturday March 24 as part of the GEMS (Girls Enjoying
Math and Science) program. The College of Engineering will serve as
host.

GEMS event provides hands-on opportunities to learn about math and science.

Bev Ketron of iSPACE (interactive Science, sPace and Aeronautics Center for Education) will speak to open the event, and will later conduct one
of 17 scheduled workshops. Workshop topics will include bridge building,
circuit building, bone examination, living and working in space and
many others.
Engineering,
psychology, physiology, dentistry, biology, chemistry and physics will
be represented in the workshops, most of which will take place in UK
College of Engineering facilities.
Other
organizations contributing to the event include NASA,
Society for Women Engineers, Center for Quality People and Organizations,
Kentucky Paleontological Society and Phi
Sigma Rho engineering sorority.
