Jennifer Doerge, director of student advising and student success, has received the National Academy Advising Association (NACADA) Region 3 Award for Excellence in Advising, Primary Role Advisor.

Excellence in Advising Awards recognize individuals who demonstrate qualities and practices that make significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising. Winners will receive complimentary registration to their region conference.

“Jennifer’s leadership has played a significant role in creating one of the best advising teams on campus,” said Kim Anderson, associate dean for administration and academic affairs. “It is not unusual for one of our more senior students to come back to the 3rd floor of FPAT to get advice from Jennifer or to simply say hello.  Her passion for student success is evident and she is a true inspiration to us all.”

Doerge started at UK in 2006 as an account manager in the computer science department where she discovered her true calling: academic advising. Doerge had a close mentor who helped mold her into the advisor she is today, her mother, Jane Riggs, who worked for years in the College of Engineering as the advising director.

As an academic advisor, Doerge is grateful to play an instrumental role in helping students transition from high school to college. She is proud that many keep in touch as they progress through their majors and even after graduation.
