Sen-Ching (Samson) Cheung, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a faculty member within the Center for Visualization and Virtual Environments, is the focus of a recently published article by the Chronicle of Higher Education. The article highlights Cheung’s research into autism therapies using breakthrough techniques in digital engineering—research made personal by the fact that his son is autistic.
Cheung, along with autism, communications and psychology experts at UK, are currently seeking a $726,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to develop a “virtual mirror” that will help autistic children learn daily tasks. According to the Chronicle article, an estimated one in 88 American children is autistic.
