Professor Y.T. Cheng, currently Professor of Materials Engineering in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, has been selected as the Frank J. Derbyshire Professor of Materials Science. Dean Thomas Lester recently announced the honor to faculty and staff. “Dr. Cheng is a role model for interdisciplinary education and research and is fully deserving of this award.”
Dr. Cheng joined the University of Kentucky College of Engineering faculty in 2008. His research areas include biomedical devices, nanostructured materials, sustainable manufacturing and conservation.
The funding for this professorship is provided by the family, colleagues and friends of Dr. Derbyshire, who formerly served as the Director of the Center for Applied Energy Research as well as Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering. “[Dr. Derbyshire] was highly supportive of interdisciplinary work,” remarked Dean Lester. “I am confident he would enthusiastically support Dr. Cheng’s selection.”
