Applications for Engineering Leadership Class Invited

EGR 599 ENGINEERING LEADERSHIP

SPRING SEMESTER 2010

WEDNESDAY 3:00 � 5:00 PM

RGAN 387 (1 HR CREDIT (P/F))

ELIGIBILILTY: Engineering students with engineering standing and senior standing are invited to apply for enrollment in the course. Information can be found at http://leadership.engr.uky.edu/index.html.

Enrollment is competitive and limited to 15 students. Students will be selected on the basis of their academic record, their participation in University and College organizations, and their involvement with non-profit organizations. Interested students should submit a cover letter and a current resume to Carrie Craig (carriecraig@engr.uky.edu) in the Engineering Dean�s Office (RGAN 351) by no later than noon, Wednesday November 11th. Finalist will be asked to participate in an interview on Friday, November 13th.

INSTRUCTOR: Thomas W. Lester, Dean of Engineering

OBJECTIVE: To introduce students to the principles of leadership, common strategies used by leaders and the communication techniques of effective leaders.

REQUIREMENTS: All students enrolled in the course agree to participate in all class periods, an off campus retreat prior to the beginning of the spring semester, and a three day field trip to Washington, D.C., where they will meet with members of Kentucky�s congressional delegation as well as with high ranking officials of Federal Agencies such as the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency and the Office of Homeland Security. Students must remain active in the course for its entire duration and participate in all activities to receive course credit.
