Sixteen students and two faculty members from the Department of Mechanical Engineering are heading to Arizona to participate in the 2009 Cessna/Raytheon Student Design/Build/Fly competition. The competition will be held April 17-19 in Tucson and is affiliated with the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

Design/Build/Fly is a competition in which students from AIAA chapters at universities all over the world are invited to design and compete with an unmanned aircraft. The competition requires students to design, manufacture, and demonstrate the aircraft flight performance that meets the specifications.

The team will also include several non-senior members, as required by the D/B/F rules and regulations. All members will have the opportunity to apply work from various classes, both laboratory and analytical.

Team members going on the trip are: Tony Blaker, Ben Craigmyle, Sarah Lynn Dennis, Jonathan Griffith, Dan Roettgen, Stephanie NeCamp, Tim Riley, Keith Bezanson, Brady Doepke, David Miller, Alex Thompson, Hassan McGinnis, Britney Thompson, Claire Dodson, Jim Burgess, Tyler Porter, Dr. Suzanne Smith and Dr. Raymond LeBeau.
