Mine rescue teams from Kentucky and other states took part in competition as part of the Kentucky Mining Institute annual meeting. The Department of Mining Engineering coordinated the Kentucky State Mine Rescue contest Thursday, September 4.
The event brings coal miners, industry officials, and state and federal regulators to Lexington for two days of mine safety contests.
The state mine rescue contest matches the best rescue teams in Kentucky with neighboring states. These 45 mine rescue teams are the very ones that will respond to any mine emergency.
The contests were held next to the Center for Applied Energy Research, 2540 Research Park Dr. in Lexington .
