Holloway Fields, Jr., BSEE ’51, the first African-American to earn an undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky, died Friday, February 24. Fields is a member of the College of Engineering’s Hall of Distinction.
“The College and University lost a pathfinder with the death of Holloway Fields,” said Dean Thomas W. Lester. “As the first African-American to earn a degree in any subject at the University of Kentucky, Mr. Fields helped open the doors of educational opportunity for thousands of students at UK. In his professional and personal life, he served as a role model for those following after him. We are saddened with the news of his death, which followed quickly on the heels of the death of his wife several months ago. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”
