Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Manufacturing Systems Engineering MS program, students are required to have:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree from an engineering program accredited by ABET with a GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 scale (exceptions may be made by the admissions committee if persuasive evidence of applicant’s potential is presented).  Applicants who have been awarded Bachelor degrees in fields other than engineering or from engineering programs not accredited by ABET (including those offered by institutions outside the United States) may be admitted only if persuasive evidence (test scores, grades, letters of recommendation) indicate strong academic potential. Students with an undergraduate major not in engineering may also need to complete a certain number of undergraduate engineering courses to prepare them for this program.
  • An overall score of at least 300 (verbal and quantitative sections combined) is required on the GRE (exceptions may be possible based on student’s overall application).
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores for all international students (except those with a degree from an accredited U.S. institution). Currently, for admission:
    • The minimum acceptable total TOEFL-iTB score is 79. This is considered equivalent to our currently acceptable minimum scores of 550 on the paper-based and 213 on the computer-based tests.
    • The minimum acceptable IELTS overall band score is 6.5.

Please refer to the MFS Graduate Handbook for detailed information about these admission requirements to the Manufacturing Systems Engineering MS program.
