Undergraduate ProgramsThe department offers ABET accredited, integrated programs on two campuses to prepare students for opportunities in mechanical engineering. Students can pursue the B.S. degree at the Lexington campus or the Paducah campus. The undergraduate program offers students flexibility as well as sufficient depth and breadth of study through the variety of course offerings. Specific components of undergraduate study include:
Students may elect to enhance their educational experience in the College's cooperative education program. In the coop program, after their second year of study, participating students alternate a semester of study with a semester of employment, giving them one full year of work experience upon graduation. Such major employers as General Electric, Toyota, Lexmark, Marathon Ashland, NASA Centers, Ford, and Kimberly Clark provide students the opportunity to work with qualified professionals and gain valuable real-world experience. Interested students are also afforded the opportunity to participate in hands-on research experiences under the supervision of faculty. These research experiences for undergraduates involve students in challenging investigations that put classroom knowledge to practice in real-world settings. The University Scholars program allows qualified students to receive both a B.S. and M.S. degree with an accelerated program. Scholarships based on financial need and merit are available on a competitive basis. Scholarships often provide the added incentive and support that enable deserving students to continue their Engineering education. The Mechanical Engineering Program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012 - telephone: (410) 347-7700.
