U.S. News and World Report ranked UK's mechanical engineering graduate program 41st among all public mechanical engineering graduate programs in 2008 (66th among all mechanical engineering graduate programs).

UK is one of only 20 university-led teams from around the world selected to compete in the United States Department of Energy (DOE) 2009 Solar Decathlon. Senior mechanical engineering undergraduate students are members of this team.
