What is the purpose of the ERC LLP?
The Engineering Residential College Living Learning Program (ERC LLP) is a unique opportunity for College of Engineering students who are passionate about pursuing a career in engineering or computer sciences to live together in a common goal focused community. This residential experience complements the classroom expectations by integrating students into the Engineering Community with programs centered on professional development and enhancement. In addition, the ERC LLP provides students with opportunities to interact with College of Engineering Deans and Faculty, alumni representatives from the industry, advisors, and hand-selected peer mentors, who help students meet the academic expectations of the engineering program and excel in academic excellence. Finally, ERC LLP students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on engineering classes with other engineering students in a state-of-the-art classroom located right in the ERC LLP on the first floor of Woodland Glen III (WG III).
How will participating in the program impact my academic and social schedule?
The academic accolades that have been recorded from previous ERC LLP cohorts are amazing. Freshmen in the 2015/16 ERC LLP were retained in the UK College of Engineering at a 12% higher rate than non-ERC LLP students. Additionally, the 2015/16 ERC LLP cohort earned a CGPA of 3.06 and 46 freshmen in the ERC LLP garnered an astounding 4.0 CGPA after their first year of engineering/computer science studies. The ERC LLP is focused on strong academic results and aimed towards achieving higher retention rates at both the University of Kentucky and within the College of Engineering.
The impact to your schedule will be minimal. The majority of the programming, activities and events will take place right in WG III. Participating in the program will not extend the amount of time to graduation. In fact, having a close community of students and faculty to support you will help keep you on track for graduating on time.
Who is eligible to apply?
The ERC LLP is open to all incoming freshmen who are admitted to the UK College of Engineering and to any returning UK College of Engineering student.
Do I have to be pursuing a certain academic major?
Yes, you must be pursuing a degree in the UK College of Engineering.
How do I apply for the ERC LLP?
Students apply via their UK Housing Application in the MyUK online portal. The deadline to apply is May 1st, 2017. However, because beds are limited, we encourage you to apply early.
Where do ERC LLP students live?
All ERC LLP students live together in the newly constructed Woodland Glen III residence hall. WG III boasts two-bedroom suite style living with private bedrooms and is conveniently located near the state of the art , William T. Young Library, the very popular fitness and recreation facility known as the Johnson Center, and one of the largest on campus dining facilities called The 90.
Who will I room with?
All ERC LLP students are paired with other ERC LLP roommates. This promotes social connections and a solid support structure for students pursing a College of Engineering degree. If you and your desired roommate are both in the ERC LLP, you can request a specific roommate via the UK Housing Application.
What if I have a friend at UK who is not a student in the ERC LLP, can we still room together?
Maybe. We highly encourage students who accept their offer to live in the ERC LLP to plan to reside with another student admitted to the ERC LLP. However, there are a few general populous rooms reserved in WG III that are not allocated to be filled by the ERC LLP. These rooms are not filled until all ERC LLP rooms have been designated. There is a possibility your non ERC LLP roommate request could be placed in one of these limited rooms, thus allowing the two of you to be placed in WG III together. This process must be coordinated with the UK Housing Office and the Director of the ERC LLP.
If I will be participating in the university Honors Program or the SEAM Honors Program can I still apply to reside in the ERC LLP?
Yes, you absolutely can. Freshmen accepted in the UK Honors or the SEAM Honors Program can also be part of the ERC LLP.
