If you were on campus prior to spring semester you might remember a lot of paintings scattered around the library. These are painting of former College of Engineering Deans. While planning for the renovation, Donn Hancher mentioned that they were really not being given the prominence they deserved. As Chair of the Renovation Team, Donn encouraged us to find a suitable place where we could group this historical collection. When we discussed it with our architect Dan Smith he suggested we place them in the current serials alcove.
Anchored on one end of the gallery is the bust of the first Dean of the College of Engineering - Paul Anderson. His portrait is just to the right and then the succeeding Deans’ portraits follow on either end of the room. As new Deans retire, their portraits will be added to the hall. Please take some time to browse through the Hall next time you visit.

The Blackwell Synergy online journals platform is beingrelaunched with a new design, due to go live at the end of this week. This redesign provides easier navigation, faster loading times, and
improved access to tools for researchers. In addition, the new website
meets the latest accessibility standards (ADA section 508 and W3C’s
WAI-AA). The main visible changes are the moving of the major functions
to the left-hand menu, the grouping together of tools at each level of
the website, tabs being replaced by left-menu listings and a cleaner
look and feel. The new Blackwell Synergy still includes all the
essential benefits for researchers, librarians and journal editors
including strong journal branding at all levels. The new design has
been developed with user input.
If you would like to preview the site ahead of launch you can go to
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com <http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/>and log in using the username: clientbeta and the password: synergy. Please be aware that the journal branded banners and other visuals arestill being loaded so not all will be visible on the beta site before
launch. To view the demo as a PowerPoint and to see a list of what’s
new and what’s changed, please go to:
http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/librarians/journal_information.asp. Please note that this is a redesign of the look and feel of the site andyou do not need to make any changes to your links or OPACs. Accessrights and existing links will be unaffected by the change.
We are always interested in your feedback so please do send your
comments back by email so they can be passed on to the Synergy team.
