Gift to support
research
A
team from Boeing, the world's largest manufacturer of commercial
jetliners and military aircraft, visited the University of Kentucky
Center for Manufacturing
Thursday to learn more about lean manufacturing and the Toyota
Production System.
Boeing
is also providing funding for UK research into lean manufacturing.

for the second annual UK BEST program. BEST stands for Building
Engineering, Science and Technology.

Engineering research part of $10 M grant to UK
|
|
The University of Kentucky has received
a grant of more than $10 million for a multi-disciplinary study
of the relationships among environmental pollutants, nutrition
and disease.
The College of Engineering
is one of five UK colleges that will be part of the research effort,
which will also develop new technologies to detect and remove
pollutants.

student Tabler reports from D.C.

UK engineering student Brett Tabler
was in Washington D.C. last week to encourage Congressional support
of the nation's space program. Tabler works with Jacobs Technology
at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston as part of the UK College
of Engineering co-op program.

Introducing Gato del Sol

The latest model of the UK Solar
Car, Gato del Sol, was unveiled Wednesday, May 21.
A UK team and Gato del
Sol will compete in the 2008 North American Solar Challenge (NASC2008),
a competition to design, build, and drive solar-powered cars in
a cross-country time/distance rally event. Teams compete in a
2400 mile drive from Dallas, Texas to Calgary, Alberta in July.

to 600 graduates, including 63 who earned doctoral degrees, during
a recognition ceremony Sunday at Heritage Hall in Lexington.
