The Electron Microscopy Center is part of the Engineering College and is located in the basement of the ASTeCC Bldg. The Center serves the entire university community and industry locally and nationwide. The Center is a multi-user shared equipment center and operates on a cost recovery basis. During a typical year over 150 customers are served, providing services for over $18 million in grant funds.

Shared Experiment:

  • Microscopy (STEM/TEM, SEM, FE-SEM, ESEM, OIM, EDS, EELS, EFTEM)
  • Computer Modeling (Diffraction Analysis, PDF database, Material Studio electronic structural analysis using UK supercomputer (DMOL3 and CASTEP) )
  • Sample Preparation ( Jet Polishing, Ion Milling, Dimpling, Coating, etc.)

Training

Training is available by appointment throughout the year for all the equipment. Contact us prior to training to discuss scheduling and sample preparation. At the completion of training, new users can operate the equipment on their own during normal working hours. When they become proficient they may be given off hour privileges.

Technique Development

There are new techniques in microscopy being developed around the world all the time. The EMC staff will provide expertise to develop techniques to advance research for your particular sample analysis needs.

Future Capabilities

If you would like to collaborate on new equipment acquisition for future needs, contact the EMC administration.
