Edible Car Contest

General Information

Using completely edible components, students can create a car to race down a ramp for a prize! Ingredients and equipment will be completely furnished, but students are welcome to bring their own edible materials to assemble into a car. Items such as pretzels, cookies, carrots, candies, a variety of uncooked pasta, peanut butter, icing, bananas, crackers, marshmallows and much, much more will be provided. Creativity is a must!

Students 18 years and under are permitted to enter, but the contest is geared toward middle school and elementary school level children. No pre-registration is required, simply show up on the day of the contest and build your car!

  2. The car must be generally smaller than 12″ x 12″ x 12″ and roll freely.
  3. Materials used to build the car should be entirely edible. However, there will be exceptions made for things such as banana peels, which aren’t necessarily edible but are part of the raw food.
  4. Plastic knives, forks, and spoons will be provided to aide in the building process.

  7. Each car will be staged at the top of a ramp with an incline of around 35 degrees and released to roll. The distance beyond the end of the ramp the car travels will be measured and recorded.

Judging and testing

At the end of the day, the car that has gone the farthest off the end of the ramp will be declared the winner. In the case of a tie, the judges will choose the winning car based on creativity, design, and tastiness. Winners will be selected in each age category, 5th grade and below and 6th grade and above. Winners need not be present to win, but if your car is in the running for a prize, please make sure we have the proper contact information.
