Objective:

Using the fewest number of index cards possible, build a bridge that can sustain a minimum load of two 1/2-bricks. Materials to be used include 3x5 index cards, a maximum of one box of paper clips, a maximum of one roll of tape, and safety scissors. All materials will be provided. Bridges will be loaded until failure. Dimensions of the bridge should be:

• • 10" minimum total length
• • 3" minimum width for decking
• • 3" minimum deck height

Rules:

1. Bridge must be built on-site.
2. There is no limit on the number of cards used, however, heavy penalties are levied for using more than 15 cards.
3. Loading will be done 1/2-brick at a time over the entire span of the bridge.
4. Maximum of three people per team.
5. Bridges who fail to support a minimum load of two ½ bricks are automatically disqualified.

Judging:

The judging will begin at 11:00 a.m. and once all of the completed bridges are tested, the winners will be announced.

• • Twenty (20) points are given for each of the half-bricks that the bridge supports.
• •Ten (10) points are given for each of the remaining cards that the designer does not use.
• •Ten (10) points are deducted for each additional card that the designer uses. The designer who earns the most points wins.

Prizes:

First place, Second place, and Third place will be awarded.
