Human Hair Tensile Strength Contest
Description:
We'll measure the tensile yield strength of your hair. Tensile yield strength is the point at which the hair initially begins to deform (or stretch). This takes less than 5 minutes to measure.
Rules/Procedure:
1. All ages welcome.
2. Competition is a walk up from 9:00a.m.-1:00p.m.
3. Need 4" (at least) strand of hair.
4. Contestant formulates guess of tensile strength in specified units.
5. Hair placed in mini-Instron at strain rate of 1"/min.
6. The modulus and tensile strength are recorded.
Judging:
The closest guess wins.
In case of a tie all winners will receive a prize.
Prizes:
The prize will be announced day of competition (
eg. UK mug, shirt, or
gift certificate).
The prize will be mailed later.
