Tower Building Contest 2006

Objective
Using index cards, build a tower that can support the most weight. Contestants will be provided a supply of fifty 5" x 8" index cards, white glue, and tape from which they are to construct their tower.

Directions
The 24" towers need only support half as much weight as the 12" towers in order to receive the same score.

Once each tower is completed, masses are added to the top in 1 kilogram increments until the tower collapses. The tower that supports the most weight will be declared the winner.

Rules

· Students may use only the materials provided.

Judging

· Twenty (20) points are given for each of the units of weight that the tower supports

· Five (5) points are given for each of the remaining cards that the team does not use.

· Five (5) points are deducted for each additional card that the team uses.

The team earning the most points wins. In case of a tie, towers will be loaded until failure

Prizes
Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at 12:30 pm . The winning team will receive gift certificates to a local music store.
