Objective

Using a 4" x 4" piece of aluminum foil, construct a barge that will float the most pennies without sinking.

Competition

Contestants will be given one piece of aluminum foil that measures 4" x 4". They will have a limited time (5 to 10 minutes) to construct a barge. One at a time, contestants will place their barge on the surface of water in a pail. The contestant will then drop pennies one-by-one in their barge until it sinks.

Rules

Each student will be given only one try. The Freshman Engineering Student Council will record the number of pennies each barge holds.

Prizes

First, second and third place winners will receive a prize. In case of a tie, the persons in the tie will each receive a prize. Prizes will be awarded at 12:30 p.m. You must be present to win.
