The Electrical And Computer Engineering Faculty have ongoing research projects in the following areas: microelectronics, VLSI, electrooptics, electromagnetics, computer engineering, communications, signal processing, controls, electromechanics, and power electronics. In addition, joint research activities in manufacturing systems and processes are in place. Research in microelectronics, VLSI and electrooptics is
focussed on IC and MEMS device structures, integrated temperature sensors,
magnetic and magnetochemical sensors, laser micromachining for biochemical
sensors and optical filters, electronic packaging, hot carrier degradation
and high field and luminance effects in MOS transistors, testability
analysis of FPGA, optical and optoelectronic correlators, electroluminescent
display devices, and photovoltaic cells. Research in electromagnetics is focussed on electromagnetic analysis of electronic packages, and the modelling and characterization of complex composite materials. Research in computer engineering is focussed on supercomputing and video walls using linux pc clusters, high performance distributed computing, and microcomputer architecture. Research in communications, signal processing and controls is focussed on multicast switching systems, hybrid and discrete events systems, automated manufacturing systems, tissue scatterer analysis, and brain-spinal cord interactions in control locomotion. Research in electromechanics and power is focussed on a.c. machine deterioration, and starter/generator power electronics development.
