Note: Use the Data-Field example as guidance to writing a query.
Name:
The name search is based on the principle of case-insensitive, contiguous
(uninterrupted) string of text. For instance, searching on
- 'r' or 'R' --> 270 results
- 'Ro' --> 34 entries
- 'Rou' --> 2 entries
- 'Rouch' --> 2 entries
The search also cannot transpose portions of words. For instance, searching
for 'Keith Rouch' yields no responses, while 'Rouch, Keith' or 'Rouch,
K' or 'rouch,' yields the one correct entry. This is because the Entry
is 'Rouch, Keith' and the words 'Keith Rouch' do not appear in that order
anywhere in the database.
Note: In all searches if a field is blank in a database
the field name will not return with a blank entry. Sometimes periods (.),
or "N/A" will appear.
Data-field example: "Keith, Rouch"
Department:
Click here for a list of Department/Building/Program
Abbreviations (bottom of page)
This search in the Department Search area yields contact information
for the Department in general. In the People Search area it yields
a list of the members of requested department.
To look up contact information on a department use People Search
with the department's name, or abbreviation. The full name will produce
much more accurate results than the abbreviation, because the search works
on the same principles as the name search.
Example from People Search
'C' --> 370 results
'CE' -->213 results
'Civ' -->28 results
Example from Department Search
'C' --> 8 results
'CE' -->5 results
'Civ' -->1 result
Data-field example: "Civil Engineering - CE"
Phone Number:
Use the four significant digits (257-3343). If you know an extension
number you may use it as well (859-257-3304 ext. 80639).
Data-field example: "859-257-3304 ext. 80639"
Email:
Use the portion of the person's email address before the @ for best
results. (e.g. webmaster@engr.uky.edu)
Data-field example: "foo@engr.uky.edu"
Chair/Director:
Exactly like the Name and Department searches except that leaving
the search query box blank returns a listing of all Chairs and Directors
in the College of Engineering. See Name section
for rules.
Data-field example: "Center for Robotics and Manufacturing Systems"
or "CRMS" or both.
Centers/Programs
See Name section for rules.
Data-field example: "Center for Robotics and Manufacturing Systems"
or "CRMS" or both.
Labs:
Use Full Name and no acronyms. See Name section
for rules.
Data-field example: "Fluid Mechanics"
Printing Tips:
Use the printer friendly option.
Test your output on one page at a time before printing the full query
results
The Entire Directory options are optimized for landscape orientation
printing on Windows platforms, and may print differently or unevenly
with other printing configurations or platforms.
Other Notes:
- This is a MySQL database using PHP as an interface.
- Search results mirror the construction of the database which is sorted
alpha by Institution/Department and then by Last name of members.
- If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions about the usage or
design of this directory please email theWebmaster
